This week in the Get to NoMI series, we introduce the two women running the show for corporate and social events at NoMI Kitchen – Alison Kremer and Camila Rachmanis, our Private Dining Managers!
1. What is your favorite item on the menu? And why?
AK: The Tiger Roll – we have the best sushi in the city, hands down.
CR: Our Crispy Brussels Sprouts on the dinner menu. The bacon glaze makes this the perfect sweet/salty combination.
2. What’s your favorite drink on the menu? And why?
AK: I love the Canard-Duchene champagne, which is available by the glass. I could drink champagne all day, everyday!
CR: I’m partial to the Traditional Margarita, but pisco-style, made with egg whites. The frothiness is a great texture.
3. What do you love about Chicago?
AK: There is always something to do and new things to try…a new restaurant, the many street fairs, sporting events, etc.
CR: I love that the city overlooks Lake Michigan. Even in the winter, it’s such a beautiful sight. It feels like we are always on the beach!
4. What is something we may not know about you?
AK: I have been to the top of the tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa in Dubai) during a trip with a friend in 2014. While in Dubai, we also snow skied indoors, went to an underwater zoo, and went on a dessert safari!
CR: I’m a licensed scuba diver. I got certified in 2005 during a trip to Turks and Caicos with my family. My father and I got certified at the same time and now anytime we travel we get to share that special experience all over again.
5. How long have you been working at NoMI?
AK: I’ve been with the hotel for five years in total. My first three years I was a Culinary and Food & Beverage Coordinator, followed by a year and a half as an Events Coordinator and the last six months as a NoMI Private Dining Manager.
CR: It’ll be a year in March since I joined the company and moved to Chicago!
6. If you could bring anyone to dinner at NoMI, dead or alive, who would it be? And why?
AK: Definitely, Kristin Wiig… her humor is on point. I’d love to spend an evening laughing wit her.
CR: I would bring my grandmother Lina, who always takes me to beautiful restaurants in Paris. Without a doubt we would order the entire dessert menu!
7. What’s the best advice about working in the F&B industry you’ve ever received?
AK: Always get (and stay) on Chef’s good side.
CR: Breathe and smile!
8. What do you like to do on your personal time?
AK: Spend time with friends and family, cook, travel.
CR: As a former New Yorker, I still spend a lot of time exploring Chicago. Whether its trying different restaurants or visiting museums, I’m getting to learn the city a little better each day.
9. What’s your favorite table in the restaurant or bar?
AK: Table 30, one of the corner window tables. We celebrated my Dad’s 60th birthday at that table and it was the first time my whole family had dined in NoMI Kitchen.
CR: Table 111 in the Lounge right by the entrance to the dining room. It’s a large marble table perfect for gathering with friends, and you still get a beautiful view of the Water Tower.
10. Do you have a favorite time of day during your shift? What is it and why?
AK: What I love about this position is that every day is so different – client meetings, events, working on upcoming events, etc. — so it’s hard to choose just one point in the day that’s my favorite. I love it all!
CR: I love the early evening, around 5:00 PM when the sun starts to set and the lounge begins to bustle with thirsty guests!
